The Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership has welcomed the vote in the Commons yesterday (Monday) giving support to legislation which will pave the way for the HS2 network.

Andrew Cleaves, GBSLEP Board Director with responsibility for transport, said: “The Commons vote is an incredibly important step forward and now means Government can press on with the delivery of HS2.

“Our recently submitted Strategic Economic Plan detailed to Government how we intend to maximise and enhance the opportunities having two HS2 stations and being at the heart of the network.

“This includes our ambitions to be the base for the proposed HS2 College, becoming a world-leader for high speed rail technologies.

“The vote gives us surety about the timetable and we urge Government to continue to give consideration to accelerating the timetable for delivery.

“Of course, we have always acknowledged that the management of the impact of the route must be handled properly and this remains the case.

“Quite simply, we will work to provide the best economic outcome for Greater Birmingham.”
