Dr David Hardman crowned BYPY 2017 Inspiring Leader
Dr David Hardman MBE, CEO of Innovation Birmingham, has been recognised as the 2017 ‘Inspiring Leader’ at the 17th annual Birmingham Young Entrepreneur of the Year (BYPY) awards.
BYPY is one of the region’s highest profile award ceremonies, recognising and rewarding the most talented individuals in Birmingham’s business community. The event, which was held on 18th May at Birmingham’s ICC, welcomed over 850 professionals from across the region, to celebrate the best professional talent across six categories including; Finance, HR, Recruitment and Training, Legal, Marketing and Communications, Property and Construction and Technology.
With over 20 years’ experience in knowledge transfer, David Hardman has been working at the interface between applied research and commercial application and exploitation. His expertise and experience has successfully encouraged the creation of appropriate partnerships and infrastructures, promoting the development of knowledge-based businesses across a range of sectors – in Birmingham that sector being digital technologies.
After moving to Birmingham in 2008 to develop and implement a strategy that would build on the legacy of the third oldest science park in the UK, David Hardman has successfully transformed Aston Science Park into the Innovation Birmingham Campus; one of the UK’s leading campuses for digital start-ups, scale-ups and SMEs.
Whether leading a team, or mentoring young entrepreneurial businesses, David Hardman has an infectious enthusiasm and passion for the sector that delivers results time after time. Of the 146 Entrepreneurs for the Future start-ups that have been incubated by Innovation Birmingham over the past eight years, he has personally worked with a great many to help them succeed, as well as making strategic connections to accelerate the growth of the business.
Dr David Hardman MBE, CEO of Innovation Birmingham, said: “The Birmingham of today offers real opportunity to entrepreneurs and growing businesses across all sectors. But, we’ve got to point where visitors to Birmingham are not surprised by what they find.
“The impact that digital technologies are, and will, increasingly make on the way we live, work and play are obvious for all to see. Innovation Birmingham’s role is to provide a focal point for city-orientated innovation – the Campus’ urban setting means we can connect tech entrepreneurs to the opportunities on offer and drive a truly smart city.
“To be named Inspiring Leader at this year’s BYPY annual award ceremony is a great honour and I hope to inspire future generations who will, in turn, help to transform the opportunity for Birmingham to become a smart city into a realisation in the very near future.”
Home to over 160 tech companies, the Innovation Birmingham Campus provides office suites, co-working space and event facilities for start-ups, scale-ups and SMEs across Greater Birmingham and is the region’s leading location for digital and tech businesses.
