Working closely with the West Midlands Combined Authority, the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP) – together with the Coventry & Warwickshire and the Black Country LEPs – has a key role in developing a Local Industrial Strategy for the West Midlands. GBSLEP will lead on developing action plans for four key sectors of economic strength, including life sciences and the creative industries.
The Life Sciences Action Plan will focus on unlocking the region’s competitive advantages as a location for the development and production of medical devices and diagnostics and for clinical trials. This includes the region’s strengths in advanced manufacturing & engineering; digital tech and data; large, diverse, stable population base; and patient data systems.
The LEP is bringing together stakeholders from across industry, the NHS, higher education and public sectors to develop the action plan. It is keen to engage with companies based in and outside the region to understand their views of the West Midlands as a location and what the barriers are to realise their company growth plans. Companies engaged or looking to engage in the medical devices, diagnostics, bio-pharma, bio-tech and digital health sectors locally are invited to contact the LEP by emailing Katie.Judge@birmingham.gov.uk.
