In February 2015, Government invested £5million for 100 additional work coaches to assist local people into local jobs as quickly as possible to help avoid the effects of unemployment. The joint initiative between GBSLEP and the Department for Work and Pensions was launched in June 2015.
In the first year, this focused approach exceeded its targets by supporting an additional 17,000 unemployed local people back into work and also, over 14,000 jobseekers have been supported through a period of Work Experience in this time. The placements are vital in giving unemployed people the confidence and experience needed to secure employment. Due to the success of the initiative, a further £5 million has been announced by the Chancellor to enable the programme to continue for another year.
