GBSLEP develops action plan on creative industries

Working closely with the West Midlands Combined Authority, the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP) – together with the Coventry & Warwickshire and the Black Country LEPs – has a key role in developing a Local Industrial Strategy for the West Midlands. GBSLEP will lead on developing action plans for four key sectors of economic strength, including life sciences and the creative industries.

This is a great moment for the region’s creative industries. BBC3 is here; Coventry has won 2021 City of Culture; Birmingham will host the Commonwealth Games in 2022; the area is pitching for Channel 4 and major film studios – with ambition for so much more.

The region already has nationally significant design, content production, performance and jewellery sectors along with a complementary digital and tech sector.

The Local Industrial Strategy action plan for creative industries is about leveraging these existing strengths, connecting them with emerging opportunities, such as virtual and augmented reality, to ensure that the region’s creative sector is a world-leader and can generate the jobs of the future.

Discussions with industry to date have enabled the LEP to begin drafting an action plan, which will be ready in May. The LEP will launch a social media campaign to ask industry to contribute further, meanwhile do contact us if you would like your voice to be heard at, marking it ‘Creative Industries Industrial Strategy’.
